Meet: Henry Deen
Deputy Director of Geological Survey
Henry Deen is a passionate geologist with over twenty-five years of experience in mineral exploration, mining, and project management in Sierra Leone, Burkina Faso, the Ivory Coast, and Guyana. He holds a Master’s Degree in Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation, with a specialisation in Geological Resource Management and Environmental Geology, from the International Institute for Geo-Information Science and Earth Observation (ITC) in the Netherlands.
With a strong foundation in geological sciences, geographic information systems (GIS) and hands-on experience in fieldwork and data analysis, he has successfully designed, developed, coordinated, and managed gold, base-metal, diamond, manganese, iron-ore, bauxite and mineral sands exploration projects through to mine development in West Africa and South America. Before joining the NMA, Henry worked as a Project Geologist for Poura Resources Limited (Burkina Faso), a subsidiary of Bayswater Contracting and Mining Int. (BCMI).
Through work in mineral exploration, environmental geology, geotechnical studies, and research, Henry has developed a thoughtful, detail-oriented approach to sustainable resource management, believing that informed science plays a vital role in shaping a resilient future.
Henry continues to expand his expertise, collaborate across disciplines, and contribute to projects that support national development and policy-making.
